Exercise Intensity can be correlated to how much effort you are putting on your workout routines. The big question is: why is it important? Or does it even matter at all?

Importance
According to health experts, knowing your exercise intensity is important. It helps you determine how you are doing fitness-wise and tells you where you are with regards to your program. It simply helps you monitor your fitness program.

Measurement
So how do you measure your exercise intensity? According to personal trainer experts, you would know if you’re optimizing your workout by checking your breathing. If you breathe faster than the usual, you are definitely doing good exercises. Another thing to check is your sweat. If you are developing light sweat, chances are, you are indeed getting a good workout. Lastly, check if you feel a little strain in your muscles. This means that the muscles you are targeting are doing work. As a rule of the thumb, you are doing well if you can talk but you cannot sing when doing your exercises.

Another way of measuring your exercise intensity is by checking your heart rate. You can do this by checking the pulse on your wrist or on your neck for one minute before and after your workout. This would certainly help you in knowing how hard you’ve been exercising.

General Rule
Moderate exercise intensity is the most advisable intensity level to optimize and maximize your workout. The logic here is simple. If you exercise too lightly, you might not burn enough calories to cope up with your program. If you exercise too hard, chances are, your muscles would become sore, and you could risk getting injured. Moderate intensity minimizes these risks, and at the same time, provides you sufficient exercises in order for you to attain your goals.
